• RootData announced the names of investors who made the most investments in cryptocurrency in 2022, with former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan as the largest investor.
• Kucoin research found an increasing number of Indians investing in crypto, with an estimated 115 million crypto investors from India in 2022.
• The crypto market faced a downturn in 2022, with the market capitalization dropping to $798 billion from $2.9 trillion the previous year.

In January of 2023, RootData announced the names of individuals who have made the most investments in cryptocurrency in 2022. Former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan topped the list as the largest investor, with a portfolio of 44 investments. Coming in second on the list was Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal, with a total of 37 investments, surprisingly. Following Sandeep was Sebastian Borget, Sandbox COO, with 18 investments, 14 of them being in 2022. Santiago Roel Santos and Jayanti Kanani both made 14 investments.

Research conducted by Kucoin in 2022 revealed an increasing number of Indians investing in crypto. It is estimated that there were 115 million crypto investors from India in 2022, which accounts for 15% of people aged between 18 and 60 in India.

Unfortunately, 2022 did not turn out to be a good year for the crypto market. Market capitalization dropped to $798 billion at the end of the year, a significant decrease from the $2.9 trillion it had been in the previous year. This „crypto winter“ of 2022 was largely attributed to the rising interest rates, which caused many industry bankruptcies and decreased the value of most well-known cryptocurrencies.

These findings from RootData and Kucoin serve as a reminder of the risk associated with investing in cryptocurrency, as well as the potential rewards. The market’s volatility and unpredictability make it difficult to know when to invest, and when to stay away. Nonetheless, with proper research and a healthy level of caution, cryptocurrency investments can still be a lucrative proposition.
